Sustainability
Sustainability...the buzz word of a New Age movement, that began back in the mid 1900's, but never got much attention until the turn of the 21st century, when it was obvious that the earth and everything on it is now suffering from "dis-ease" and on the brink of extinction, including a human lifestyle as we have come to know.
Sustainability... has spawned movements such as ~ save the planet ~ feed the planet ~ the greening of the planet ~ environmentally friendly ~ green products ~ green construction ~ green agriculture ~ solar power ~ wind power ~ methane digesters ~ fuel cells ~ alternative energies ~ smart cars ~ recycle-reuse-reduce ~ save the rainforests ~ save the animals ~ natural ~ holistic ~ and alternative health care practices and medicines.
Sustainability is a way of thinking, doing and living. It involves making conscious decisions about how your actions (how and what you consume) impact the environment, your community, people around you and around the world, thus making sustainability very much a global human commitment, that involves not just he individual but local and surrounding communities.
If you look up the word "sustain" in the dictionary; here are a list of words that come up ~ to maintain, keep alive, nourish, continue, carry on, feed, help, aid, assist, prolong, uphold, lend a hand, support, preserve, and retain. Pretty powerful words. Words that involve a high level of truth, integrity and commitment to really make a difference.
No wonder we are not there yet! No wonder the world continues down that path of "dis-ease", because very few of us have the ability, let alone the want and desire to take the first steps ~ to become committed, make a stand, set an example, create a ripple that has the potential to make a difference. For most of us, we wait until someone takes the lead and then we just go along. Unfortunately, many of those that take the lead are merely big corporations looking to make money off our hopes and desires.
The average person sees "sustainability" as something unattainable, because the core of sustainability is kept at a distance, something that we get glimpses of, but it is always held unattainable ~ Why ~ because society and those that control the economy, workforce, and controlling factors do not see the importance of health and well-being of any aspect of the planet and her inhabitants. What is important to these factions is their own "sustainability" and that being the maintenance and upkeep of their own erroneous lifestyles of greed, power, control, and manipulation ~ at the core of which is always money and systems that support money.
I encourage anyone with a want and desire to become "sustainable" or to bring "sustainable" aspects into your life, to really go inside yourself and connect with your own inner sense of truth and do some research. When you find yourself reading between the lines; when you watch the latest, greatest media craze on some new "green product" and find yourself realizing that it is just some big corporation trying to win over a group of concerned humans and reap the benefits of retail sales and repeat spending, putting money in their pockets, then ~ you are there ~ you are ready to make the biggest step of your life, into "true sustainability" ~ or living a life of purpose for the better good of the planet and all her inhabitants and for all future generations of all species.
There are a multitude of ideas and concepts that are wonderful and perfectly in alignment with what "true sustainability" should be and is. There are definitely products and processes to support a better way of life. We as a society need to start opening up our eyes, pay attention, seek them out, and then support them by bringing what we can into our own lives.
All said; this remains simply words on a page, as the majority of us are limited with time, resources and money (yes money) to implement everything that we would like to do. So don't beat yourselves up, as that serves no purpose. Small steps become bigger steps. To do nothing, is to do something. So do what you can, and never loose sight of a better future for the planet.
