Welcome to Earth Haven Farm ~
Our Little Piece of Heaven on Earth!
Kathryn Aunger and Aric Aguonie are a mother and son partnership that have come together with a mutual vision for Earth Haven Farm. Mary Anne Stear will be joining Earth Haven Farm as Aric's wife and partner.
Mary Anne Stear was born in the United States. Her mother is a Canadian citizen born in Quebec. Her father is a Jazz and Blues Musician. Mary Anne was raised in a christian home with sound morals and values, along with a love and passion for country living. She has a wonderful, loving personality with a passion for children, animals and farming. She compliments Aric in many ways and will be a huge asset to Earth Haven Farm and it's surrounding community. She is a university graduate of Anthropology and a college graduate of Early Childhood Education with a number of years experience in both fields.
Aric is the Farm and Market Manager. Farming is Aric's passion. Anyone interested in WWOOF'ing, coming to the farm to lend a hand, or to make purchases should contact Aric directly.
Aric interned one full season trough the WWOOF program at a biodynamic farm in South Western Ontario. It was there that he got hooked on biodynamic agriculture and became inspired to own his own farm. Aric truly has a naturally instinct and knack for gardening, plants, animals and agriculture.
Aric has many goals and aspirations for the farm property and looks forward to seeing them all become a reality, along with seeing the farm become sustainable and capable of paying for itself, making a name for himself, the farm, and having a presence within the community with a reputation for quality and integrity, while establishing solid biodynamic practices is his goal for the next few years. Look for Aric at the 'markets'.
Having acquired this 200 acre
property in 2006, they discovered that it had sat vacant for almost
six years with only the hay being taken off by a local farm contractor.
Further investigation indicated that no chemicals had been used in over nine years, leaving the property perfectly poised for them to apply for organic certification. Truly, this was a gift from heaven!
Kathryn's background is in sales and marketing, and is the farm's business manager. Seeing her son take charge of the farm, and handle all the responsibilities that come with such a job has been her greatest reward to date. There is so much potential here, and such a rewarding life to be had. At the end of the day, she can sit back and say ~ this is what it's all about. Kathryn attributes her love of gardening, and animals to her parents and grandparents influences. Leaving the city and the suburbs to live a simple life has not been easy, but it is certainly a most rewarding experience.
This website is Kathryn's passions and was created to bring awareness and help educate people who are concerned about the quality of the food that they eat and where it comes from.
Earth Haven Farm is located 35 minutes north of Belleville, Ontario. 3 hours east of Toronto and 3 hours west of Ottawa.
The
property is surrounded by old stone hedgerows, treed paths, and
3,000 acres of conservation land. There is no danger of contamination
from surrounding farms, industry or community services.
Alongside
their Scottish Highland Cattle, they have chosen to raise Australian
Cattle Dogs; not as a kennel; not as show dogs; but as healthy,
loving, working, family pets and companions! For more information, check out the web pages on 'cattle' and 'dogs'.
Earth Haven Farm uses biodynamic agriculture practices which are considered to be a step above organic agriculture. Kathryn and Aric have both completed the biodynamic agricultural course through the Rudolf Steiner Centre and are using biodynamic preparations on all areas of the farm, which enables them to maintain their Demeter Organic Certification. For more information on Biodynamic preparations and how they are used, check out the 'practices' page.
Each year comes with its ups and downs, learning curves, laughter, joy, new friends and successes. Check out the Bulletin Board to see what is going on, projects, visitors, workshops, etc.
